A Tribute to Great Roommates

Just for fun, (and to procrastinate) I thought I'd do some sappy recollections of my residential history, especially over the past couple of years. For eleven years I had my own room - it was my domain to rule and wreck. At 18, a freshman in college, I entered the realm of roommates...

#1 - Katie Lee
Katie and I were complete strangers when we moved in together (or were smushed together) at Indiana Wesleyan University. The tiny rooms in Shatford would have been unbearably small had I not had a terrific roommate that became an amazing friend. We were a bit different; Katie girly and a ballerina and me sporty, but we found that we had some quirky things in common. First and foremost, a passion for Swiss Cake Rolls - we bought so many boxes of those snacks that we made a border around the top of our room with the empty boxes. :D I loved my first room, decorated in a completely random style that I deeply appreciate. Shatford 312 was the place to hangout. We had so much fun together! She was always singing and dancing (yeah, at IWU!) and definitely helped bring me out of my shell. God blessed me with an amazing woman of God for a roommate my freshman year too. Katie was an inspiration - she set an amazing example, always in the Word and challenging me to be as well. Katie and I discussed things that I had never been able to talk about with people before - she became a sister. I loved living with Katie Lee.

#2 - Jenalee VeenKant
Jenalee and I were friends from the beginning of freshman year and decided we were good enough friends to survive living with each other as sophomores. (I only wanted to kill her once that semester.) Actually, Jenalee's the best friend I've ever had - she definitely knows me better than anyone else. Living with her in Carman was amazing. I'm so thankful for the strong friends that God has put in my life - friends that have the desire to live all out for Christ, true to their convictions. That's Jenalee. She challenged me in so many ways: her philosophy, her simplicity, her desire to be in the Word, her vulnerability, her accountability, her dancing skills, lol. Once again, the room rocked and we had friends over for movies and hanging out a lot. We had a great time as roommates. She's another friend that I really consider a sister - she even let me borrow her shoes!

#3 - Lyndsey Kirk
Lyndsey and I met through a friend and hung out after Bible study some last semester. We have sort of randomly ended up together, it was a last minute, "Hey wanna be roomies?" and is turning out to be pretty great. She's a HUGE blessing to me. Filling out our roommate contract thingamajigs the other day we stopped and talked about how great it is to not actually have to worry about some of that ridiculuoso stuff that other people have to. I'm pretty sure Lyndsey is the easiest person to get along with - ever. So, we're getting along, but more than that...I love hanging out with her. We've bonded over Gilmore Girls and randomness. This girl loves ridiculousness and randomness even more than I do! It's great. So...she's nice and fun and brought the tv! Our room here in Taylor (on the 5th floor of the tower without an elevator- ach.) may be my favorite yet. It's magical, lol. Ok...not magical, but some kind of greatness. This semester with Lyndsey in has already been terrific & I'm praising God for it - really looking forward to seeing where God takes this friendship!

So...there you have it. I've been so fortunate - BLESSED - to have shared a room with these three fantastic women. (Procrastination is over...I must get busy. Bah.)

Heather - would you go knock on room 410 Taylor North and make sure that whoever is living there is worthy of the coolness of that room? Please - it would mean so much.
