Annaliese: three months old

Unbelievable that our precious baby girl is three months old now! And we didn't even know that she was on her way a year ago. Time keeps flying by faster and faster. This month we had lots of firsts and I've got to find a good way to mark down things because she's getting way ahead of me, google calendar maybe. A couple nights ago she rolled and put her bottle in her mouth within an hour. I'm so happy and thankful we have a strong healthy child, but this momma is thinking two big things in one day = my tiny baby is growing up too quick! Here's our three month growth recap...

Eating: Annaliese normally eats about six times a day, every three hours or so for about 20 minutes. She's started pulling away when she's finished and looking around at things. The other day Kenny walked by while she was eating and she followed him. I don't track the things I eat and how they affect her at all, but she hasn't ever complained, so it seems like she's got a tough tummy. Kenny even made a spicy white chili this week and everything's been smooth. I'm struggling to get the calories I should each day, but my supply is still ok. I've set a goal to drink a tall glass of water between each feeding and am taking Fenugreek to help keep my supply strong. My goal is to nurse her for six months.

Annaliese has no trouble taking a bottle, I'm thankful because nursing her when we're at church is not a good option for us, it's just really uncomfortable without privacy and church is cold. We've tried getting off the shield several times now, but not yet. This article is giving us some good tips we're trying. http://kellymom.com/bf/concerns/child/wean-shield/. When we get rid of that shield it will be so much more convenient.

We had a checkup this week and Annalise was weighed. Wondering if I'll ever get used to the metric system. Here are her stats, converted and all...

Birth - 7 lbs, 3 oz & 20 in (3.2 kg & 50.2 cm)
One month -  9 lbs, 11 oz & 21 1/4 in (4.3 kg & 54 cm)
Two months- 11 lbs, 15 oz & 22 3/4 in (5.4 kg & 57.8 cm)
Three months - 13 lbs & 24 in (5.9 kg & 61 cm)

Sleep: Annaliese is a fabulous night-time sleeper. Always at least eight hours, as much as eleven. She sleeps in her pack-n-play at the end of our bed. Still swaddling. Falling asleep pretty easily after eating and rocking. Everything's working great at night, but day-time is another story. She often fights napping and gets over tired which leads to lots of long and loud crying. Usually a walk outside wrapped in the Moby will relatively quickly get her to sleep. Dreading the winter when we can't take her outside so often. Perhaps she just got used to my mom's cuddles while she visited us here? A good nap these days is an hour an a half. She is usually getting two of these and a few small cat naps each day. Kenny is super patient when she's fighting sleep and is great at waiting her out and putting her down. I feel like she's growing so fast and lately I've really hated to put her down when she falls asleep. Sometimes I don't get much done, but I think its totally worth it, I'm going to miss these sweet cuddly-times before too long.

Diapers: We dealt with some major diaper rash just before Annaliese turned three months old. It appeared and stuck around for a week while we tried all we knew to and had available, then we decided to visit a doctor about it. The doctor said to go to Poliklinika, a clinic in the city, and see doctor Laura in dermatology. There was a huge line, no Albanians don't do lines, a huge crowd of people outside the door, shoving their way in each time the door opened. We played the baby card and got in without much wait. Doctor Laura took a quick look, called it a yeast infection (I think), and gave us a prescription for some cream to use for a couple weeks. The cream did it's thing in just two days. I'm glad our first doctor dealings in Albania were over something so minor.

Other diaper news...we started cloth diapering and I'm not sure about it. I believe in it, but we've not found a groove yet. After we stop with this cream we'll get back to it and I'm sure things will fall into place.

Play: She never stops moving. She had her first roll from tummy to back at two and a half months while my mom was visiting. We were all playing Skip-bo on the bed while Annaliese was having some tummy time. She wasn't enjoying it and the next thing we knew she was turned over. We were all so excited that we scared her and she cried. We caught the second time on video...very poor video because I'm iphone ignorant, but we got it. She rolled from back to tummy for the first time just after three months. She's getting strong, pulling herself up and she likes to stand...all with help of course. She has great head control, easing it down when I lay her back. She also is beginning to enjoy bouncing and going upside down. She doesn't have a smile on her face at the time, but when it stops she has a big sweet smile. She is always looking at her hands and watching them straight into her mouth. She held her bottle and put it in her mouth right after three months, the same night she rolled from back to tummy. She's started noticing her feet, but no obsession. Annaliese loves her play mat and grabs and kicks like crazy when she plays there. I've changed out the toys a couple times now, I think she'll like this mat for somet time. She sits for 10 minutes at a time in her bumbo seat and Sits propped up on the couch for a little while. Sitting is touch because she moves so much. Bath time is getting really fun with all the splashing going on...mostly with her feet still. She's got some favorite toys that never fail to get her smiling, laughing, and talking. She's making all sorts of noises and sometimes is quite a chatterbox. It's pretty amazing to see her growing and learning so much each day!
