I didn't accomplish my goals entirely, but I did make an improvement.
Goal #1: walk at least 30 minutes 5 of 7 days
We had some really beautiful weather this week and I got out 4 days. One of them we were out and about the city for two hours! It was just so nice. When I got tired, we just found a bench or wall to stop and take a little break and it was great. It wiped me out and I took an long nap when we got home, but I'd say I needed both that exercise and that rest. My total time out walking for exercise this week was about 3 1/2 hours. Not bad compared to the zero before. I'll try to take the camera out with us and get some more shots around the city.
Goal #2: research and do yoga stretches three times
Well, I did some "research" as in browsed Pinterest and pinned a couple photos. But the old mat didn't find it's way out of the closet, nor did my living room find an open space to lay it out. Ready for my excuse? We heat the place with our wood stove and we only heat the living room/ kitchen. So every night we open up our couch and make it into a bed and sleep in the living room. The temperature of the bed room is probably 40 degrees and I just can't do that. Also, like most of Europe, we don't have a dryer to dry our clothes and instead use a drying rack, which has been a permanent piece of furniture in our living room for the last week. That's it, I don't have room to do yoga, there's my lame excuse.
I kept a log of exercise and my eating this week, which I definitely plan on continuing. It's really helpful to look back and see what I may need more of. I did awesome drinking water this week. Maybe that's why I didn't have any headaches? And I should probably be awarded for the amount of spinach I had this week. I threw it into a couple fruit smoothies, which I had never done before. All my Facebook friends were right, you don't taste it a bit! Not a big fan of spinach, mostly the cleaning it, but I know it's super good for the baby, so I guess that's the reward.
This was my first smoothie with spinach...not the prettiest or even the tastiest...but not terrible. The second one was a million times better, I used orange juice instead of milk.
I also added spinach to my at-least-weekly meal of chicken fried rice. This week we only ate it twice. But it's super easy and good and the closest thing I can get to Chinese food here, and I think it's pretty healthy too. Chicken, rice, tons of veggies, and eggs with only a little olive oil. I should probably eat it more. Here's the recipe I used to use. This time I added onions, spinach, zucchini, carrots and mushrooms.
Oh...and I was so excited that my friend Daniela made a shopping trip to Greece this week and brought me a couple of heads of iceberg lettuce. We can't get it here, so it was a treat. I love ice berg...my brothers and I used to fight over it and it was a preferred snack when we were kids. Anyway, I'm not a fan of the lettuce we can get where we live. I just can't ever wash it enough to take away the dirt taste. So with my ice berg I made a pretty delicious chicken Caesar salad. Most caesar dressings have a raw egg it seems, so since that's not good for the little person I am growing, I found this one and it was great! I love making croutons to top it off. It's was pretty perfect, but then Kenny ruined his by covering it in pepper.
I didn't do anything too crazy in the lines of unhealthy eating, only pretzels dipped in Nutella two nights. I notice that I only eat bad-for-me-stuff like that when Kenny's out of the house..hm. One thing I know I need more of is protein...we can't always find the best meat here, like the ground beef has been banned from my kitchen cause the rank smell, and I am not too confident in the butcher shop down in the pazaar. Maybe I'll take some photos of it.
Ok, some goals for the next week...
- #1: For walking...the same...30 minutes out at least five days. It's suppose to be rainy, so we'll see.
- #2: For yoga...move the drying rack, get my bed put away, and stretch three times.
- #3: For eating...smoothie 4 days and at least two servings of good meat every day.
