I lead a small group of junior high girls each week. I do it because I want to see them understand how very beautiful they are in God's eyes and to help them see that learning how to know Him better now will make all the difference in the rough years they have ahead. I also do it because they are incredibly challenging to me.
I've got a group of seventh graders that are seriously hungry to know God. One of them that didn't grow up in church said she wants to know more about God, but she doesn't like to read and the Bible seems so boring. Solution: my brother's illustrated children's version of Bible stories. (He's 21 now, didn't think he'd miss it.) And she's eating it up! She's so into it. We met last Sunday to talk about what baptism means. Amazing. (Also pretty great was DairyQueens 25th anniversary deal: buy a blizzard and get a second one for a quarter.) Another one, a very intelligent 12-year-old, said she wants to be a youth pastor when she grows up and wants something deeper. Solution: Introduction to Inductive Bible Study.
So we started diving into Colossians this week, inductive style. I had forgotten how much I enjoy it...verbs, prepositions, conjunctions, clauses, comparisons, structure...it's so much fun for a grammar-lover like me. Blueletterbible is an awesome tool for looking at the original language. I feel refreshed and grateful. Grateful that God is using these girls and bible study to challenge and grow me right here, right now.
God's plan for my life is better than mine.
